Thoma Doehring

VICE-PRESIDENT

Thoma.jpg

Thoma is a visionary leader, Colourologist, and advocate for wellness-driven spaces. For over 30 years she has been dedicated to fostering innovation, collaboration, and education within the colour and design industries.

Her leadership journey began with the successful establishment of a Benjamin Moore Design Centre, which she transformed into a thriving community hub that promoted creativity, connection and charitable initiatives. In the early 90’s Thoma pioneered in-home colour consultation services, making expert advice accessible without the need for full interior design, a concept that has since influenced decorators everywhere. She is the Creative Director and Founder of Thoma & Co Designs Inc, a firm specializing in residential and commercial design solutions with a strong focus on well-being principles. Thoma blends timeless aesthetics with modern innovation by integrating her appreciation for diverse cultures, architecture, and design traditions. This rich global perspective has been shaped by her international upbringing and deep passion for travel.

As an educator Thoma is committed to promoting color research, industry education, and the integration of sustainability in design. She is a member of the Color Marketing Group (CMG) since 2016 and the Colour Research Society of Canada (CRSC) since 2023. Additionally, she leads Color Speak events at CMG and contributes to the Education and Event Planning committees along with serving on the Board of Directors for both organizations.

Thoma is a proud Canadian and passionate about promoting and growing a Canadian non-profit organization. People all wear many hats, contribute where they can and juggle multiple commitments. As such, she is a working design professional that sits on two boards. She believes her experience working in design keeps her in tune to ever-changing trends. She feels that in becoming VP she will be able to facilitate ideas and action growth for the organization.

Her area of interest and contribution would be to further the education and research part of the CRSC. Her specific interest is in the Science of Colour and the exploration of neuroaesthetics and cognitive design. This area of consideration explores question such as, what are the effects of colour and our built environment on the brain? And does this have an influence on neurodiversity and if so, what does it look like to design inclusive spaces for diverse needs? Exploring diverse perspectives is something that she championed through the coordination of a panel of Indigenous colour leaders, Unmuted, in March 2025.

Thoma would like to see speakers on this topic and explore other areas of research and colour that could help grow interest and membership in the CRSC.
